Belonging to Something Bigger (Philippians)

2nd May, 2022

Group Guides | Sharing the gospel, sharing our lives

(1 Thessalonians 2:8)

By way of introduction: What are the sorts of groups/movements people like to be part of, that are bigger than themselves?

Read Philippians 1:1-2

  1. From these two verses, what do we find out about the relationships involved in this letter?

  2. How does Paul view himself and Timothy in this particular introduction? (compare to 1 Corinthians 1:1, Galatians 1:1, Ephesians 1:1)

    Read Philippians 2:1-11

  3. From the titles Paul gives to himself and Timothy, through to what’s often called “the hymn of Christ” in Philippians 2:1-11, how does servanthood thread through this letter?

  4. Paul writes this from prison, most likely in Rome, to the church in Philippi, which was a Roman colony that was proud in it’s rights and citizenship (see Acts 16:21, 38). As you read this letter last week, how does Paul show that we belong to something someone bigger than ourselves?

  5. How does belonging to Jesus and his church change your view of your life?

Pray for our church family and friends, as we join in with Jesus and His church
