Are you living the dream? (Philippians 1:19-26)
Group Guides | Sharing the gospel, sharing our lives
(1 Thessalonians 2:8)
By way of introduction: In our society, what are the various dreams and aspirations that people have for their lives?
Read Philippians 1:19-26
Paul is stuck in Roman prison, yet rejoices (verses 18-19). Discuss why he rejoices, do you think?
Look carefully again at verses 19-20. Since the word for ‘deliverance’ in the ESV is from a word that means ‘salvation’, what does Paul know will happen for him, whatever happens to him?
Why is it true for Paul, and can be true for us, that ‘to live is Christ, and to die is gain.’?
Paul seems to be not sure which he’d prefer, since dying is gain with Christ. Yet look carefully at verses 25-26, and discuss which one he chooses for now and why?
How does the gospel of Jesus Christ change how we live out the dreams for our life?
What are the realities we can now rejoice in, whatever happens, and how will this shape the community-life of Reforming?
Pray for our church family, for their progress and joy in the faith - to the glory of Christ.
