A New-ish Creation (Genesis 9)

Group Guides | Sharing the gospel, sharing our lives (1 Thessalonians 2:8)

By way of introduction:

Where do people try and find a new start in Life?

Why do we seek new-starts in life?

Read Genesis 9:1-7

  1. What stands out in this scene as showing signs of hope of a new start?

  2. Throughout this new-start, what do you notice about how the world will be same-but-differernt?

    Read Genesis 9:8-17

  3. What does this covenant reveal about God, humanity and the world?

  4. Look carefully at verses 14-16, what does the sign of this covenant do? (How does the sign function?)

    Read Genesis 9:18-29

  5. As Noah and family start life in this “newish creation”, what happens that is similar to Genesis 1-3?

  6. Noah’s prophetic words about his sons and granchildren look at the future of all families of the earth, so this is a unique situation. Yet what can we learn about how we ought to treat people from this scene?

  7. As we look at this “newish creation”, and our world today - how can we apply Genesis 9 through the interpretive lens of Christ (Luke 24) to us today?
